REHABILITATION, RECONSTRUCTION AND EXPANSION OF LAGOS – IBADAN DUAL CARRIAGEWAY, SECTION II (SHAGAMU – IBADAN)
The 127 km long Lagos – Ibadan expressway was completed and commissioned in August 1978.
Being a Route A1 road in the Federal Highway System, it is considered the oldest and the busiest thoroughfare in Nigeria.
Over the years, the expressway underwent numerous rounds of rehabilitation and reconstruction.
The Company is presently executing a contract for the latest upgrade, of an 84-kmlong Shagamu – Ibadan section of Lagos – Ibadan Expressway, involving rehabilitation, reconstruction and expansion. This is part of an extensive modernization of the Federal Highway System, aimed at increased safety, serviceability and durability of the road infrastructure.

- enhanced pavement structure, comprising crushed stone base, geogrid joints, asphalt concrete base, polymer modified asphalt concrete binder and wearing courses
- comprehensive underground, subsoil and surface drainage system, including entire-length concrete median, side drains, culverts and erosion control structures
- double concrete median crash barrier for the entire stretch
- street lighting in designated areas
- rehabilitation and reconstruction of 12 existing bridges and flyovers, construction of tollgates, trailer parks, pedestrian bridges, etc.
80% of the permanent works have been completed as of September 2022. Substantial completion of the present scope of work is expected in early 2023.
